Stephen King Donates to Edgar Allen Poe Sculpture Fund

Recently, the endorsed ‘Your Town’ internet site for Boston, Massachusetts, USA broke the story that bestselling novelist Stephen King, along with his wife, writer Tabitha King, have donated $5,000 to the Poe Foundation of Boston.

The cash is going towards the Foundation’s plans to erect a large statue of that American writer in Edgar Allen Square, not far from Poe’s birthplace.

Foundation Head Dan Currie was quoted as saying that there was “some disbelief” as the weighty donation arrived on April Fool’s day.

Artiste Stefanie Rocknak designed the planned statue. She was preferred from 265 possible candidates. Besides being an award-winning affiliate from the Sculptor’s Guild, Rocknak is also a professor of Philosophy based in New York.

The anticipated piece is known as ‘Poe Returning to Boston’ and depicts the novelist carrying a suitcase of ideas, here rendered accurately inside the forms of (amongst other things) a raven plus a ‘telltale’ heart.

The statue is going to be finished and unveiled once the foundation can raise its proposed goal of $175,000.

Prior to the Kings’ generous contribution, the venture has received a $25,000 donation from the Highland Street Foundation as well as the $10,000 gift from Poe collector Susan Jaffe Tane. In addition, Poe admirers and other involved parties have communally donated some $5,000.

Widely attributed as a innovator of that detective story, also as a master of thriller, trepidation and macabre horror, Edgar Allen Poe is one #of the# giants of Us literature.

However, during his existence, Poe’s affiliation with the city’s literary and cultural elite was often a tense one. His production was repeatedly criticized and he found himself ostracized from particular literary circles.

Stephen King, who originates from Portland, Maine, has published numerous novels, novellas and online eBooks, most of them inside the horror genre. The novelist has also published almost two hundred short stories, an art form partially pioneered by Poe. King’s publications have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide and have frequently been adapted for film and television. He is considered one of the world’s most victorious writers.

Tabitha King has published 8 novels and several poetry anthologies. She is also a photographer.

“We are thrilled and tremendously grateful to possess the support of the Kings” Dan Currie told Boston.com recently.
